The Coach

Michael O'Grady

As the son of a career Army officer, I grew up moving many times. I’ve been to every state except Alaska and attended three different high schools. For the last 25 years, I’ve lived in the northern Virginia area. The place I call home.

The one activity that has been a constant for me besides family and school was sports: basketball, soccer, baseball, football and track and field. Starting with youth sports at age five and continuing with high school all-state, all-conference and all-district honors in two different sports. Culminating in attending college on a full soccer scholarship, sports have always been a part of my life.

I have two favorite sport experiences: 1) in my sophomore year of high school in Rhode Island, my varsity basketball team finished the dream season of 18-0 and 2) coaching my son's Little League baseball team to the house league championship game.

I have been coaching since high school, working or volunteering at many youth basketball, soccer and baseball camps or schools. For the last five years, I've been the head coach of basketball, baseball teams and an assistant football coach. I coach because I enjoy teaching athletes the skills to succeed and how to compete as a team member.

As a young athlete I was extremely lucky to have great coaches and I'm not sure I could look any of those coaches in the eye if I didn't give back by coaching youth sports.
